Just a quick shout-out to say that Friday's Poetry Kapow was a handsomely-dressed bunch of poetry fun. Thanks to our open-mic poets, featured artists, contributors of STUFF, light and sound and bar-folk, documentors, fortune-teller (!), and other willing punters and participants. Video and audio recording will be available soon. Thanks to photographer Anna Berry for her stunning gallery of the evening:

http://www.annaberryphotography.com/portfolio77708.html

Also special thanks to: Donna, Bard of Northampton, for joining us (she was voted best performer of the evening, don't you know!); Borders for their very generous gifts of vouchers for prizes; Shona for taking the money at the door; Richard Frost for being the visionary and artist as always, and for being the Sound Guy; Martyn our new favourite interviewer (you made us feel special!); Guitar-weilding Phil, the Awesome; the in-bloomin'-credible Antipoet for being our headliner; and Fay Roberts (you may know her as Faith Hope), for being a great poet, super-organiser, historical artefact provider, and an awesome friend (and for being all this whilst not even living in MK anymore!).
Those who missed Poetry Kapow really missed out, but our small crowd really got involved and we filled the evening just fine thank you, even without holding the Slam (we stand by the decision to give people the choice whether or not to compete!)
Anyone interested in poetry, art, creative happenings, or how to create a local event (not just for local people!) with a lot of love and a whole heap of fun, check out the photos.

August....

has been incredibly busy with moving house (our postcode doesn't even exist yet in some companies info. Try ordering a pizza from a new housing estate and you'll understand my pain) and planning and executing my Edinburgh adventure. Just 8 days of solid show-watching, drinking and walking VERY quickly across a mountainous city can be surprisingly taxing. Organisation definitely paid off, as did staying in a centrally-located hostel. Managed to squeeze in a lot of entertainment as well as a little bit of Schmoozing, though on the whole got a bit lonely on holiday by myself.

I have strong opinions on the very very bad shows, but there were a few (too few?) great ones as well.

For my own part, I performed at Utter's ajar mic, which was a great opportunity, and managed to stay in for the second round, but apart from applause and compliments, nothing came of it. It was a bit of a blow, to be honest, but I had a great time and made a few friends, and it's not like I need to do this for money (I would hate to have to do that, I can be as prolific a writer as I like, no pressure) but, all performers are at least a little needy and maybe one day...

Never mind, I kept a pretty solid journal, and am looking to write a couple of poems about Edinburgh. The sheer beauty of the place is my primary inspiration, that and the fact that spending a week going from poetry to comedy to theatre shows all day is Utopia in my eyes.

September starts big and busy as well, with a couple of big events to plan and look forward to, as well as the kicking-in of the true cost of living here in Absinthe towers.

August started with a bang and goes out with one too, there will be more poetry, it might just have to wait until the tea kicks in. NURSE!!!!

it's proving a bit of a prolific one (at last) with 2 new poems for Bardcore @ Stony Live ("Poetry from the back end of The Bull" see what we did there?) and hopefully a new little treat for Raising the Awen in Northampton tonight.

Was rather chuffed that my dad actually ASKED me to read him a poem yesterday... I gave him "Bless This..." which he appreciated (well, it is about him and I!)

Waterside festival this weekend, specifically the 3 - 4pm poetry slot on Saturday... hopefully there can be some banging of drums again, as that was very exciting on Friday!

Trying to ride the creative wave for just a little longer... it's been AGES!

So it's the week of paid gigs and success for some of my dearest loved ones, with poet buddy Mark Niel being paid to strut his stuff on Sunday (he kept his kit on this time though, much to Carla's disappointment!) and doing a rather fine job of it; Thursday, sees the lovely fayroberts* performing her own brand of performance verse supporting Billy Childish in the Bishopsgate institute! How darned awesome does that sound?? I'd better clutch my ticket tightly because apparently his crowds are famously keen. And Saturday sees the official start of doc_absinthe's* Slimelight guest DJ-ness. Oh, VERY clever! ;-)

All I have at the moment to be a little bit chuffed about is managing to write a new poem right up to the moment I stepped in front of the mic last night (which is very bad form, it's not a bad one but needed at least ONE rehearsal. Must do better!) and have it please the punters. Not that it got me a GIG or anything (not that I've enough material for a longer set, but still!)

And next weekend sees the Stony Live festival, the start of a run of live appearances by "Bardcore" Back end of the Bull, Stony Stratford etc etc see www.poetrykapow.co.uk/bardcore for info and stuff!

Oh, and I'll be slogging it at the London international Music Show on Saturday the 13th too, so if anyone's going to that (Excel centre, Docklands, London, Earth) you'll find me on the Korg stall, reining in the punters and trying to avoid being patronised by the occasional passing man who thinks he knows more about the gear than I do.

The only other thing that I feel the desire to mention is that after mysteriously feeling absolutely knackered, dizzy and generally pretty low for a few weeks, returning to the gym after too long an absense on Thursday has made me instantly better. Still way off the mark of toning up for slimes this week though. Never mind, I'm sure I'll have plentyof other opportunities to bear some flesh this Summer,

Ok, I think that's it for now.

Edging into Summer

it's been an eventful few days.... )It's been an eventful few days in more ways than one...

First of All there was the Camden Crawl on the 24th April. Started a gorgeous sunny day hanging with poetry Chums Fay and Mark in Camden, by going to Resurrection Records and buying a handful of stuff including the AMAZING Spreading the Infection by Prospero. Truly awesome album of industrial atmospheres as well as some full-on metal-bashing. Lovely.

Then the slam itself was rather good (although the Jazz Cafe wouldn't have been my choice of venue...) loads of great performers, including some seasoned pros like Alison Brumfitt and Pete the Temp. After some muddled miscalculation Mark realised that the crowned winner can't have possibly scored higher than he, and went back to the compere to check the scores.

Of course Mark was right, and he had won after all, he was a bit rattled by the whole thing but at least he got the gig. And afterwards we all went for pizza! Despite our promise of free food and drink, nobody knew anything about this and we had to fight our way through the streets of Camden to find somewhere suitable to go.

It turned out an amazing evening, with 7 of us all leaving there as new friends, and by missing the rush-hour back, us 3 had a pleasant journey back to MK.

Since then, I've mostly been trying to not spend too much time and energy at Slimelight, although it's been difficult, as ol' Doc_absinthe has been DJing there, and it's all been rather good! really looking forward to Fuze, and then Slimes this weekend, which should be the last I'll see of the place for a while (don't quote me on that tho!) Now that I'm on the literacy panel for MK Arts Gateway, I've seen the massive possibilities for arts and poetry-related goings-on here for the next few months, and it's all looking a bit mental and I'll try to post what I can on here. And I do believe that MK's poets ("Bardcore") STORMED "Word at the Y" at Leicester last night. All 5 of us got a slot and did rather well although this week's bad news didn't leave me in the best state to socialise and network.

At the moment, we're all scribbling madly because we've been commissioned to perform at the current exhibition (James Lee Byars) at Milton Keynes Gallery as we'll performing there on the 15th May. We've had some awesome publicity photos taken for this, as well as for our many festival appearances over the summer, it's getting just a bit exciting!

Tonight, we're merely going along to cheer on the glamour slammer Mark Neil in the final Oxford Slam. The next performance for the rest of us is Tongue in Chic at the Madcap, Milton Keynes on Sunday. Yes, that is after my double-Slimelight weekender... I'll be taking a taxi to that one and Darn the expense!

And now onto the bad news. Funny how these things ripple through, but I've just learned that a young lad (always too young) that I've known for a few years died over the weekend. I've been feeling a bit of a loss of innocence and faith myself too as a result. All part of growing up, I suppose.

Sorry no cut, but LJ is being rubbish.

April 16th, 2009

Since Poetry Kapow, I haven't been resting on my laurels, oh no! The gloriously anarchic, friendly and fun Raising the Awen in Northampton last night continued to provide a regular event for us to descend upon. With New Poetic Friends Lionel (he of the polemically political persuasion) and Carla (funny, lyrical, thoughtful... her pomes quite good you know) in tow, we went along for more bawdy songs, alcoholic songs, stories about Puck and other great, English holy fools and lots of poems.

I managed to rustle together a new one, which I think covers a lot of the passions about music that I tend to rap on about to EVERYONE, and finally aired "Bad Poet" to a crowd who I think appreciate it.

Definitely more to come, but busy at work, as well as trying to actually write stuff at the moment.

Looking for a date for the new Kapow too, July looks possible....

For those about to Kapow!

NYE

Sometimes, there are those days where nothing quite goes right, your timing goes awry, people let you down or perhaps you just disappoint yourself with your efforts. And just occasionally, crazy ideas work out just fine, everything's ready on time, people exceed expectations with their generosity and talent, and you kick yourself for ever doubting it all.

But I've now seen artists building a garden in a theatre, where dragonflies with glowing eyes look on as YET MORE amazing poets from Milton Keynes (and beyond) enter, and give us their words from behind a cute picket fence and surrounded by flowers.

And there were poems scribbled on leaves (the beermats will be back one day, I'm sure!) which were added to our "poet-tree" (see what we did there?)

And there were "Kapow" signs and name-badges, plenty of chocolate and nibbles, and new local music (monkey kettle & Friends vol 1) over the stereo adding to general atmos.

But more importantly, we had lots of people taking part, many of whom were new performers or new to Milton Keynes, 4 of whom were up for competing, and all of whom were great.

Big fat thanks to our artists Nikki (who left before the show) and Carla (who also gave us some great rhymes, and was on photography duty, oh yeah, and she did the lighting too. I'll get me coat); Ubercool multi-musician Rooh; MatthewMT (for letting us in the theatre and stuff!); Roger for amps, mics and other important stuff; all who donated prizes (including Borders, they rock even more than I thought!); our 4 slammers (especially our winner Alison Brumfitt who I later discover is a well-reknowned and experienced performer. Cheers for coming along and joining in, Alison!); everyone who took to the open mic; and everyone who just came along to watch (and yell Kapow! just for the hell of it!) And big love an'all to Fay, for being the website queen, Facebook-doer (it still scares me!), poetry goddess, and more of an organiser and overseer than I could ever hope to be (I hope you don't now have a house-full of said picket fence, crepe flowers and glowy dragonflies)

Thank you all so much for choosing to spend your Easter Saturday with us. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. And sorry I ever doubted how attendance might have been! Everyone excelled themselves, I can't wait to see the photos!

Hopefully off to "Word" at the Y theatre in Leicester tonight to see a couple of great poets (including Rob Gee, of whom I am a bit of a fan) although have a sore throat and the weather outside is frightful, so it might not be a bad idea to give it a miss. More worried about long-suffering poet colleagues... Hopefully I'll be back up to ass-kicking strength in about 45 minutes and get my shi-ha together! (I'm banking a glass of wine would be better remedy than lemsip, but that's another decision I'm going to make VERY soon!)

Meantime... EXTRA EXTRA Poetry busking in Milton Keynes shopping centre! I think that makes us Poets:MK in keeping with the corporate colours and stuff. All day Saturday, and if it's not too scary, most of Sunday, before buzzing off to the ALREADY well-renowned (2nd instalment) Tongue in Chic night at the Madcap.

Primarily just myself and Ian Barker / Alex Sykie making some noise, with hopefully a few visits and contributions from friends and colleagues. At least I can get us some amplification!

So, Madness indeed. At least I've got some new poems!
WIN!

February stuff....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
funky android
well it's proved a fun and eventful year so far. Korg is still a great place to be, lots of extra product training coming in very handy! Tongue in Chic was an awesome night, I've never seen so many people at a poetry event, and in our gorgeous little Madcap theatre too! The next one's in 2 weeks, but there have been loads of other poetry happenings since January as well. This month's trip to Coventry was very nice, despite the "Garrgh"-ness of their pomposity there. It was nice to perform in front of an old friend who happens to live in aforementioned city, and get very drunk on their tasty beer,
More importantly, Raising the Awen, a night to celebrate the bardic tradition in Northampton, was very good, and packed out! a few too many kids there for my liking, but Justin and Jimthom make everyone very welcome. They really love us. Especially Fay. Yes Justin REALLY loves Fay. But then who doesn't?? ;-)
So February sees me with a new PC (yay! internet! Oh no, where's all my free-time gone?) and a new phone. But more importantly, still in this fabulous house, although I lose my housemate of 18 months this weekend, but I think she's got a good send off!
So, quite a lot of drunkenness of late... I've been making a bit of a habit of getting drunk before Slimelight and dancing myself sober. No permanent damage done yet, so no complaints. And the boy made his DJ debut and he did good, although he needs new hardware before he'll attempt it again.
And theatre visits too, saw "The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre" last night, which was as awesome as it sounds, hopefully my review will get printed about the place, and hopefully I'll see The Maids next week too. It's all getting me in the mood for Edinburgh and having realised that travelling on one's own makes B&Bing rather pricey, I've booked up a week in a hostel. A bit of a first for me, but I'm only in a 4-bed dorm, and hopefully will make some friends that way. REALLY central too, which was the priority. Just have to figure out the best way to travel now, but I've loads of time to worry about that.
The real priority now (apart from the Spanish-learning, which I'm failing to keep up!!!) is Poetry Kapow, which is going to land on Saturday 11th April. Even Tony at the Madcap says Easter weekend is silly timing, but we'll just have to work doubly hard at pulling in the punters. Ergo lots and lots of new writing, performance practise and *gulp* poetry busking in the shopping centre.
Something tells me this is leading up to something. And the Edinburgh Fringe website says it's still taking bookings for acts...
Nah, in my dreams!!!
Which, for the record, are getting weirder. Oh well.... as long as reality is still pretty good, who cares what the sleep-fairy gives me?
As long as there's love in your heart and beer in the fridge!

January 7th, 2009

January is proving fun and fruitful on the performance front. With Tongue in Chic looming this weekend, things are really looking up. Last night though was our second trip to Coventry for poetry at the cozy Tin Angel pub. Well attended again, although I think we knocked spots off them even more than last time. High-tempered debates from the moment we hit the road were a precursor to more dramatic spats between the hosts themselves.
Still, we were 4 very strong performers reading our strongest work, and I'm pretty proud to be part of something so Dynamic and special.
It's just a shame that such a well-established night has to harbour some rather pretentious and negative feeling and behaviour beneath a thin, sycophantic facade. At least it was amongst themselves, because we were in an antagonistic mood, and there probably would have been a punch-up.
MK poets rule!

December 10th, 2008

And it happened, 7th December, Poetry Kapow as organised by Fay and myself, with the invaluable assistance of a few dedicated others. The poster was gorgeous, so everyone I asked was happy to display it, the Madcap venue eventually came up good, despite us having very little time in there to recce and generally have a tech rehearsal. Lights and staging all worked out well, although we really wanted to use a second stage, it was set up with its own amplification and everything, but our performers preferred the main stage!

Mostly though, all the performers were good, and each section was kept short, with some fantastic musical intervention by Rooh... I could go on forever, but the important thing is that we're both very much looking forward to the next one (in the spring sometime, I think)

Oh, and I'm self-published now (of sorts), i lost sleep over it, but I now have 2 booklets of poetry to sell.

Hello musicians and music-lovers everywhere!

Just a quick note to say if you haven’t added your thoughts to our www.musiciskorg.com website yet, you might like to give it a go. Read the comments already there and then just follow the link to upload your own. The picture doesn’t have to be of yourself, just an image that represents what music means to you.

We’d love to hear what you have to say!

Hold onto your Christmas stockings, boys and girls, as Poetry Kapow Productions need poets of all shapes and sizes to get scribbling, get up on stage and show off at our Seasonal Finale at the Madcap on 7th December.

There’ll be a poetry slam, other competitions, and more entertaining interludes than we’ve even dreamed up yet. But we need rhyming Rudolfs, Pantomime dames and serious poets who think we’ve gone a bit silly to sign up and join in. So if you’ve a sonnet in your bonnet, a poem in your pants, or just some angst to vent in a rhyming fashion, get in touch on info@poetrykapow.co.uk

August 11th, 2008

So another looong weekend went without a hitch... phew!

Friday night, went out with work, and got very drunk on cocktails, talked and talked and talked like a wind-up toy to some very unfortunate folk, realised I was getting wobbly, gave up and left early, got home, got more drunk and passed out. Oh well, at least it was my own bed!

Saturday started early with a 7.30 am hangover, then a busy morning, including finding the incredible "Animalwatching" by Desmond Morris, which I fell in love with years ago and have now bought for £1!

Lunch with the fella in the brilliant "slug and lettuce", they're know what we drink now, and I've had most of the things on their menu at one time or another.

After a nice long afternoon of dressing up, we went to slimelight for a great evening of constant high-octane dancing, DJs and band were all pretty good, which was useful for me, because after getting home I had time for a shower (which I'd been craving since 2AM) and to smarten up before meeting with family for lunch.

Lots of chinese food, wine, beer and cake later I got back home about 8 o clock, which was WAY too late to start a film :(  so we just curled up to Long Way Round.

need lots and lots of caffeine to get me through the day... still have a feeling I won't quite make it!

well, I haven't updated for ages, so I've decided to tell very little...

No poetry Kapow on the horizon... I think some organisation has to befall me soon or I might just grow boring!

I watch too many films in an attempt to feel like time is being spent on something creative and interesting, but actually, I've just witnessed too many turkeys to mention. Still need to see Batman, hopefully that'll happen this week!

Slimelight has suddenly become fun again... and it's a good time of year for it too, feel like we're gearing up for Infest!

Went to Camden and spent ages attempting to buy clothes, and actually found NOTHING that I liked!

Life and stuff in general is ok, trying to keep the sales figures at a reasonable level at work, but it's pretty shabby tbh.

meself and Dr_Absinthe are getting up to the usual jinx and it's pretty good, but I've been pretty moody with him recently (stop that NOW girl!!!!) but he's been completely sweet and wonderful, of course!

Still having the most incredible, catastrophic and generally traumatising nightmares, despite getting another amulet-type tattoo... damn it, the powers are failing!!

Oh, and the diet-of-sorts is going pretty well: junk-free and in the gym 4 times a week, but WOW do I get hungry!!

So I need sunshine, cocktails and meditation to save the summer from being a little mediocre. Oh, and I need to buy a hat for the wedding. But I need more industrial-style clubwear first to get me through the silly season... sigh.!

I'm going home to paint my nails and watch a film (and maybe eat a BIIIIIG steak!)

Ok... gig on Sunday.

I have 2 tickets and no takers for the 2nd. My fella (much like myself, but, hey, I've committed myself to go, and am looking forward to it) doesn't fancy the predicted THREE HOUR bus ride to London and back to see System:FX / Panzer AG on Sunday.

Ideas, suggestions... .takers??? (system:FX on at 6.30)

April 30th, 2008

oh, it's been aaaages!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Wow, yeah... April. Blimey!

Uh, saw Swarf at the Bridgehouse... They STILL absolutely kick butt, Liz has the most amazing voice, and the music manages to be sweet and gutsy at the same time. And the sound in this teeny-tiny venue is pretty good too, shame it's in a very isolated estate in Canning Town.

Sick and Twisted was effort, and although it was good in places, it was just too loud and there were too many "Uh, no. Why??" moments on that dancefloor... mooooving on!

Birthday weekend was VERY nice... made lots of Dennis the Menace and Tom & Jerry cakes for work, and spent a couple of days visiting this gallery and that exhibition, following the Independent's listings to find that: 2 of the places did not exist (and phone numbers didn't work) 2 were merely shop fronts (one of which was closed, 1 had the wrong timings (and was merely a few rubbish pictures in a cafe) and whatever was advertised for the V&A was completely inaccurate, and it was very dull.

fortunately, despite almost catastrophic train problems, Si met me in London and took me out for my surprise dinner which was at the Oxo Tower and absolutely great. Their cocktails were pretty amazing too, and no more expensive than your average Soho bar.

And on Friday morning, we left at Dawn to travel to Dortmund and on to Gladbeck for Forms of Hands. We stayed in a lovely, and very friendly little town called Gilsenkirchen, which was a drive and a half from anywhere, but worth it. Our hotel was really nice, and we had a couple of meals (and more than a few drinks) in a proper german pub (called the Witches house, and there were all little witches everywhere!)

the fest itself was mostly pretty exciting (despite their lack of rum, jaeger or diet coke... grrrr!) Si bought lots of music... I was typically more conservative for my own cynical reasons. But in all it was a great success, and whilst I've a lot to learn before Leipzig (back off to Germany via london on wednesday!) my German wasn't too bad and we survived ok.

so now we're pushing Friday night's Poetry Kapow (are you coming? are you? huh??) and I was up VERY late last night trying to get angry about stuff and form it into rhymy words. So we're a bit nervous, but it'll all be exciting and fabulous and it'll be Slime o'clock (you better believe it baby!) before we even realise it.

So this weekend is gonna be pretty awesome, SO glad it's a bank holiday! And then I'll have to pack to be away for nearly a week... erk!

Stupidly busy and twitchy and generally ready for another party or two before the money runs out!

And the month is over! Roll on Summer!!!

Happy easter to all you Chocolate-loving bunnies out there. I'm still *very* unable to eat chocolate without getting serious bellyache... which I know is a good thing as it works a great deterrant, but I do occasionally still fancy the stuff and boy does it bite me back!

still, it didnt stop me enjoying some gorgeous fudgey chocolate cake when we visited the in-laws in Ipswich last weekend! The whole adventure was a big success, Si's mum and her partner are completely lovely and wouldn't give up feeding us wonderful food and lots and lots of booze. Very fun.

This weekend, back in London, t3h_Doc and I have his dad's house to ourselves... woohoo! I bought a bunch of CDs in resurrection and we went to see the incredible Yamato Drummers of Japan show. He really didn't want to come with me, but after much encouragement ("well, either you come with me, or you can go off and we can meet later if you want....") I think we both greatly enjoyed it. The Peacock Theatre is really good, even in the cheapest seats right at the back, we could see and hear it all perfectly. I know I have a drumming fixation, but I really recommend this show for anyone who loves live music or dance.

Slimelight tonight is a given, but really my priority this weekend is the Hocico gig on Monday. I'll be working for Inertia, and I'm looking forward to introducing them to Si and helping them raise some cash in the usual way. Either way, it's shaping up as a good one, and providing the weather stops messing around (tooo much snow today!) we'll be energetic enough for a bit of after-slimes gathering on Sunday morning.

anyway, the racket in the CD player is pleasant enough (woohoo! a CD purchase that doesn't suck! At last!) but I need to retire to the kitchen for some tea!

March 3rd, 2008

Feeling all warm and sunny at the passing of february.... quick update on that:

Valentine's malarky: sent a card to the fella's work-place, which was great because he was teased and harrangued by his more-than-macho pint'o'lager-type colleagues! Thursday night itself was a mess of japanese cuisine (because he is the bestest cook ever!), including Sake (er... not my fave, but had to be done) and 2 bottles of champers... and woke to my first proper grown-up hangover. My co-workers found it most amusing that I spent most of the following day going "ergh......" and staring into space looking a bit green!

After that, we sorted the details on our trip to Forms of Hands in Germany at the end of April (still diligently trying to learn a bit of the language, I used to be ok at it, but school was a massive 11 years ago!) and have been coming up with some great ideas for the Poetry Kapow in May.

other than that, there have been 2 Inertia gigs, it's so great to be working with those guys again, and I'm really looking forward to going to Leipzig with them. The gig in Southend was in an unfinished bar with frankly slapdash technical set-up. The less said the better, but the band were consumate professionals (even if they did have to tweak their own sound mid-show) and the crowd were enthusiastic and friendly.

However, the Appleby pub in Burton-upon-Trent was much more successful: a gorgeous venue, friendly and generous staff and a truly amazing crowd. It was the best performance I've seen the band give and we sold a lot of merch (even to people who merely heard the soundcheck but couldn't stay for the show!)

and as for the last few days.... well I've been spending far too much time with the gorgeous and wonderful [info]dr_absintheand yet we never tire of each other's company. We've seen a bunch of films together, and been out clubbing again (a fantastic night at Slimelight on Saturday, love and kudos to all who said hello, especially [info]akam_i, always great to see you!) but still, I guess my own personal highlight would have to be....

well, it was the 29th Feb on Friday... and the chance only comes once every 4 years, so what's a girl to do?? With no real sense of occasion apart from it just being The Right Darn Time, I proposed to Dr_Absinthe... and he was a little surprised, but although we've no plans (or rings) as yet, it's a definite yes. I still don't know who to, and who not to tell. Part of me wants to shout it from the rooftops, and that part of me is winning today.

xx

Crazy dazed....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
NYE
January has been and gone and it's been pretty eventful so far, work is still fun although trying to deal with too many brainectomy patients gets on my nerves at time... still, apart from that, I get to talk about music and generally have a laugh with some of the best customers a girl can wish for... oh, and we've had a few oldies but goodies in from well-known bands this week (only drummers, mind!)

did a bit of a stint at this year's literary fest which went pretty well, included my new rant about the internet (yeah... I know!) which still needs some spit and polish before it's truly finished. But still, raised a few eyebrows there and even got a request. Oh, and my fella looked thoroughly gropable in his pinstripes and a fedora... *giggles*

getting better at going to the gym, but really am not going to have the time for that today!

After turning down the chance to go clubbing last week, (stayed in with a book, more than happily whilst the Doc zoomed off to London. To his credit he tried pretty hard to tempt me to go!) we started this weekend with a visit to the Dev, where it turned out Rex was playing a hearty chunk of metal and industrial, and it was a great chance to reminisce on Full Tilt with [info]psycho_smurf, and Max played a damn fine set too.
On Saturday afternoon I really wasn't feeling too good, and was considering scrapping the plans for the evening, but after a nice long walk, was definitely in the mood.

we got there at about 10.30, and a truly grim slab of Goth was being played but at 11, Loki brought in some more interesting EBM and we were dancing away happily until we moved up to the top floor. It was a great night of truly awesome music, Loud and Fast and if it wasn't for some poi spinner with book-end hips taking offence at me telling her to "stop hitting me with those things or F* off" and beating me in front of a bunch of people, it would have been a perfect night. As it happened, I couldn't wait to get dancing again (once I'd put in my ripped-out falls of course) but [info]dr_absinthewouldn't let me go until we'd sat down for a bit, and the staff were keen for me to be out of the way until they could guaruntee the little fruitloop and all her ugly little friends were out the building. So we wasted a lot of time, but it wasn't really until the morning that I realised the extent of my injuries. I admit it could have been a lot worse, but I have some big bruises and my eyes are pretty bloodshot, my neck hurts quite a bit and of course I have dancing injuries.

But what hurts the most is discovering that even though she is what has been described as a "Casual", and this is not a first offence, I don't think she'll be barred. Somewhat disillusioned today, DESPITE the apparent support I received from the staff. Something very fishy is going on....
